University
Technology MARA or simply called as UiTM is a renown university which has a
branch in every state including in Shah Alam, Selangor. Formerly, on 1967 UiTM
is known as Institute Technology MARA (ITM). The late Tun Abdul Razak was
responsible in making ITM as a catalyst to generate all available sources and as
well as to increase the number of Bumiputera graduates which is trained and
qualified in the field of science, technology, and much more including the
field of entrepreneurship (University Technology MARA,
2016).

UiTM
continues to shine as a prestigious center of higher education in
entrepreneurship field when awarded as Entrepreneurial University of the Year
2012 (MEA 2012) in Entrepreneurship Award by Ministry of Higher Education.
According to the Vice Chancellor of UiTM, Prof. Datuk Seri Dr. Sahol Hamid Abu
Bakar, he says that UiTM defeats another 15 public institute of higher

Furthermore,
the award also giving additional allocation to MASMED that is the agency that
responsible for moving the excellence achievement of the university towards
entrepreneurship field (Utusan Online, 2013). Malaysian Academy
of SME & Entrepreneurship Development (MASMED) has been established in 1975
to organize education plans, research and to manage entrepreneurial consultancy
services. In international level, MASMED aims to support Bumiputera community
in the commercial and to broaden the entrepreneurship core in the university by
Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) (Malaysian Academy of SME and
Entrepreneurship Development, 2017).

Besides,
various programmes in developing and culturing the entrepreneurship among the
students through Entrepreneurship Unit of KPM have been planned which involves
the institute of higher education. One of the programs is Gerak Usahawan
Kampus, Student Mall, Program Perantis Usahawan and many more. These
programmes are using a special provision of entrepreneurship which is approved
by Prime Minister about RM20 million. However, the effectiveness of
entrepreneurship education in the institute of higher education is still
assumed as failed and lack of intention from undergraduates. As a proof, Datuk
Saifuddin Abdullah1
says that the total of entrepreneurs among undergraduates is still too little
which is only around 3% from the total of 240,000 undergraduates in Malaysia
venturing into entrepreneurship as opposed to the main target of the government
that is to achieve 5% by 2020 (Wan Yusof & Zainol,
2015).

Most of the employment from government and private sector become
choices among the graduates. Too many graduates every year causes the
opportunity of employment become limited due to a lot of competition among
graduates from IPTA & IPTS. This situation will lead to a severe unemployment
rate if graduates do not take precautionary measures. One of the precautionary
measures that should be taken by graduates is by joining entrepreneurship
activity.
