First question, “The Hurt Locker” is a film written by Mark Boal and directed by Kathryn Bigelow. The film takes place in Iraq and displays combat at its best. In Iraq, these soldiers are faced with difficult challenges and have to do anything to survive. But, even though these challenges are hard to overcome “war is a drug” and that’s all they know. The writer shows this through the display of the paralyzing life of a soldier in war. She emphasizes this through the main character Staff Sergeant William James, Sergeant JT Sanborn, and Specialist Owen Eldridge (IMDb, 2008) who are all members of a bomb squad. There main objective throughout the film is to deactivate multiple bombs through the streets of Baghdad. For this reason, various challenges are display throughout the film, as their tour of duty enters its final weeks, the men face a set of increasingly hazardous situations, any of which could end their lives in an explosive instant. The theme most featured in the film is brave soldiers fight and dying for their country. Soldiers have the most dangerous job in the world. And, being a soldier is not for everyone. In fact, in order to be a soldier people have to be mentally and physically ready. Because, the sacrifices they are making by leaving their families to fight for their countries. For this reason, James character shows his sacrificing and his addiction for war . At the end of the film,  James is finally back home from serving his country and is reunited with his family. As some soldiers are happy and can’t wait to go home to their love ones James knows nothing but war. For example, in a scene, James is shown talking to his wife and as she is talking about their kids, James keeps talking about war. And, contemplates going back to the battlefield. Later he goes back to the battlefield portraying his addiction to war. Other sub themes include violence and war seen in the encounters of the soldiers dismantling bombs and fighting enemies who attack.
