Ecotourism, a branch of the tourism
business, is targeted on the improvement and preservation of ecological
community through tourism. To diverse individuals, ecotourism implies
distinctive things, like for instance, it envelops nature-based escapades,
delicate experiences, and cultural tourism. A Mexican naturalist, Hector
Ceballos Lascurain, originated the word ecotourism in 1983 to explain
nature-based tours to moderately undisturbed areas with an accentuation on
education. Ecotourism ensures the feasible utilization of ecological assets,
while opening possible livelihoods for the local people (Farrell & Runyan,
2001; Bhattacharya, Chowdhury and Sarkar, 2011). Sustainable development is a
symbol in the rise of the green paradigm as a substitute to traditional ways of
thinking about natural environment. It is focused on attaining the needs of the
existing populace in consideration of the posterity. In business decisions in
tourism and hospitality sectors, applying green strategies can be more
profitable as it attracts green travelers and reduce the consumption of energy
and the cost of conventional resources. This require minimal investment costs
yet it appeals more tourists’ participation (Weaver & Lawton, 2014).
Sustainability represents paradigm shift in terms of both social and cultural
and it is a concept of integrating various systems to buildings or structures and
managing the natural assets in an eco-friendly and energy-efficient way. In the
field of sustainable architecture, it limits the destructive impact of human
built environment to the ecological systems and conserve the resources through
appropriate design and conservative management which is centered on ecological
and resource-efficient principles. Sustainability is not about keeping the
status quo or about reaching perfection where nothing negative effects
happening, it is more of a response to an awareness to pursue ideas of survival
by relating to a constantly evolving set of solutions (Bromberek, 2009).
