Due to today’s increasing globalization, we are seeing that businesses are managing global supply chains. The new technology utilization opens new opportunities in logistic future development. The new market also introduced through the Information technology and the internet new market. And also the modern warehouse logistic have introduced by widely increases productivity and cost pressures of global competition. In today’s highly competitive climate, companies are forced to look into every part of their organization for possible improvements.The nature of the highly competitive environment means that businesses will have to maximize efficiencies. They also need to maintain high service levels to survive. Some huge transformations a rapid move towards automation and logistics business processing a couple of the biggest changes across the areas. Much recent research is started aiming at developing innovative logistics through automation process in order to improve the operational performance of future logistic. According to Granlund (2011), The possible way for improving the warehouse system is through implementation of automation system in the warehouse. In many areas, automation is a well-known means to increase productivity and cut costs, thus improving competitiveness. This shows as automation is seen as playing a pivotal role in a lot of logistics activities. Because of the large impact of the internal logistics system on both resource usage and cost, there are large potential benefits of improving the logistic operation system. Also, the performance of the internal logistics system directly affects the whole organization (Granlund, 2014). Hence, especially the highly uncertain business environment, automating the logistic process become more and more popular. The importance of atomizing the logistics tasks is getting attention especially within the vastly growing logistic services for the purpose of providing a better service in logistics areas. The implementation of Automation in logistics area is broad and contains many parts of like Warehouse, Distribution, and Transportation…etc. The focus of this seminar paper is on the automation implementation in the warehouse of logistics. A warehouse, or distribution center, is a facility that stores products from many suppliers for further distribution to their customers. Generally, five main processes can be identified in a warehouse: receiving, storage, picking, consolidation, and shipping Hamberg et al. (2012). Hence, the warehouse automation is the main part of overall logistics area and it’s also complex and difficult for warehouse workers to do their job effectively and efficiently. But nowadays, automation is able to make many fields of industry more efficient shape. In addition to previous requirements such as cost-efficiency and throughput maximization, flexibility, adaptability, and high availability are becoming more and more important, not least because of the increasing demand for product customization and the possibility of mobile computing place orders anytime, anywhere. For the success of the business, we need a developed warehouse to integrate with the modern logistic which focus on utilization of automation in the logistic. Most of the logistic tasks in the warehouse are being done by the use of technology within the minimum integration of modern technology. While some logistic firms use a fully automated warehouse logistics for making a better performance and attaining the effective usage of a resource, low cost and fast delivery in logistics businesses in the logistics process, others are not. This seminar paper is it based itself to answer a question of “To what extent the implementation of automation in the warehouse is playing a role in innovative logistics?”. It tries to show the role of the automation system and compare the current warehouse automation implementation of logistics companies i.e Euro-Fiwa-Würzburg and BLG logistics-Frankfurt. There is also a description of the two different technology i.e Auto-Store and G.com which is similar with Kiva, used by the two companies in order to automate their warehouses and their positive and negative effect. It also shows about the impact of automation on how we think this will change the future logistic innovation. Recent research papers, Journals, Youtube Videos and books were used as a basis for this seminar paper.
