Furthermore, creative thinking is the ability tothink in an innovative approach that can allow a person to come up with new and original ideas, solutions, and ways of doing things (Beghetto & Kaufman, 2007). Critical and creative thinkingskills are considered to be two of the most important skills to be held by an individual in theworkplace. Both critical and creative thinking is a subject that is becoming more significant as the worldcontinues to evolve (Kuhn, 1999). This is because of the impact these two skills can have onsomeone's ability to complete tasks and help his or her organization move forward. All of this makes critical and creative thinking skills vital for people lookingto advance themselves and their organizations.A case study that was done in Australian primary school art classes, revealed a number offindings in regards to critical thinking skills. The findings indicated that students with criticalthinking skills were regularly attentive and they had clear goals that they were trying to reach. Moreover, students that were using critical thinking skills were prepared, structured class timejustly; associated different types of art and concepts together, and they resolved issues withalmost no direction (Alter, 2009). All of this shows and proves that critical thinking skills canhelp a person be more productive and much more effective in what he or she does.Furthermore, the same case study revealed some finding about the importance of creativethinking skills. All of this indicates that the importance ofcritical and creative thinking skills and how they can benefit a person in his or her workplace.3- How University Students Can Develop Critical Thinking skills5 | PageWhile studying in universities, students can develop critical and creative thinking skills. Thereare a different number of things that students can do while being active in their university studiesthat can help them develop and enhance these skills. Firstly, when university students areworking on a specific task, they should assess all the evidence available. Secondly, universitystudents working on a difficult problem should reverse things as this can help them become morecritical (Patterson, 2017). Thirdly, to help develop and enhance critical and creative skills, university students must observe and inspect their own biases (Goodman, 2013). Fourthly, university students should question everything even their own assumptions (Patterson, 2017).All of the points mentioned above are considered ways to help develop and enhance the criticalthinking skills of university students during their studies. Assessing all the available data andinformation presented allows students to be more critical as they are able to distinguish betweenwhat is true and what is not. Reversing things instead of taking things as they are can helpuniversity students come up with better judgments and enhanced solutions as seeing the oppositeor reverse factor of a thing can put you on the right trail to solving it (Patterson, 2017).University students that want to develop critical thinking skills observe and control their ownbiases as certain biases can make them see things from only one perspective. Controlling biaseswill allow students to see things from many different perspectives thus developing andenhancing their critical thinking skills (Goodman, 2013). Through questioning everythingincluding their own assumptions and the instructor’s assumptions, university students will beable to come up with new assumptions that may allow them to analyze and evaluate a certainsituation or task in an enhanced way thus reaching a better conclusion (Patterson, 2017).4- How University Students Can Develop Creative Thinking skills6 | PageBesides developing critical thinking skills, there are certain things that university students can doto develop and improve their creative thinking skills during their studies. The first thinguniversity students can do to develop creativity skills during their studies is brainstormingdifferent ideas and thoughts. The second thing university students can do is to drive their ideasand thoughts to their limits (Coughlan, 2008). The third thing that can be done by universitystudents to develop and enhance creative thinking skills is to use their imagination in all of thetasks they perform (Montefusco, 2014). The fourth thing to develop and improve creativethinking skills is to take more risks (Marmol, 2017).Brainstorming is the process in which people list down different ideas spontaneously. Thisprocess can help university students develop creative thinking skills, as it will allow them tocome up with a long list of ideas and thoughts that can assist in the process of solving tasks. Some of these ideas and thoughts that are generated through brainstorming can be very originaland can lead to innovative outcomes. By pushing their ideas and thoughts to their limits, studentswill be able to expand certain ideas and that can lead to favorable and unexpected outcomes(Coughlan, 2008). Furthermore, when students use their imagination in the tasks they do, theytend to become much more original and inventive and this can directly lead to the developmentand enhancement of creative thinking skills (Montefusco, 2014). Even though it can beuncertain, taking more risks can ultimately lead to developing creative thinking skills as takingrisks can reveal opportunities, original ideas, and new concepts. When students avoid takingrisks while doing their university tasks, they are avoiding being creative and avoiding ideas thatcan lead to new and creative theories and ways of doing specific things (Marmol, 2017).5- Conclusion7 | PageCritical and creative thinking skills are really two of the most important skills to be held by anindividual in the workplace.
