Critical and creative thinking skills are two widely known skills that complete each other.Critical thinking is the ability to identify, classify, analyze, and evaluate an issue or situation inorder to reach a certain conclusion (Birgili, 2015). Furthermore, creative thinking is the ability tothink in an innovative approach that can allow a person to come up with new and original ideas,solutions, and ways of doing things (Beghetto & Kaufman, 2007). Critical and creative thinkingskills are considered to be two of the most important skills to be held by an individual in theworkplace.Both critical and creative thinking is a subject that is becoming more significant as the worldcontinues to evolve (Kuhn, 1999). This is because of the impact these two skills can have onsomeone's ability to complete tasks and help his or her organization move forward. Also, a lot ofpeople lack such skills making them vulnerable for being replaced by other personnel. Assessing all the available data andinformation presented allows students to be more critical as they are able to distinguish betweenwhat is true and what is not. The third thing that can be done by universitystudents to develop and enhance creative thinking skills is to use their imagination in all of thetasks they perform (Montefusco, 2014). The fourth thing to develop and improve creativethinking skills is to take more risks (Marmol, 2017).Brainstorming is the process in which people list down different ideas spontaneously. Thisprocess can help university students develop creative thinking skills, as it will allow them tocome up with a long list of ideas and thoughts that can assist in the process of solving tasks.Some of these ideas and thoughts that are generated through brainstorming can be very originaland can lead to innovative outcomes. By pushing their ideas and thoughts to their limits, studentswill be able to expand certain ideas and that can lead to favorable and unexpected outcomes(Coughlan, 2008). Furthermore, when students use their imagination in the tasks they do, theytend to become much more original and inventive and this can directly lead to the developmentand enhancement of creative thinking skills (Montefusco, 2014). Even though it can beuncertain, taking more risks can ultimately lead to developing creative thinking skills as takingrisks can reveal opportunities, original ideas, and new concepts. Furthermore, university students can improve their creative thinkingskills by taking risks, brainstorming, pushing ideas and views to their absolute limits, and byusing their imagination in everything they try to solve or perform. Students should always try todevelop and enhance their critical and creative thinking skills as these skills will enable them tobecome better in everything they do whether in university or in their future workplace.
