 Chemistry is the study of matter, its properties, how and why substances combine or separate to form other substances, and how substances interact with energy. Every material in existence is made up of matter — even the human body. 
        Chemistry is involved in everything we do, from growing and cooking food to cleaning our homes and bodies to launching a space shuttle. Such changes make life on Earth possible. During a thunderstorm, for instance, lightning causes a chemical change in the air. The electrical energy and heat of a lightning bolt cause some of the nitrogen and oxygen in the atmosphere to combine. The nitrogen and oxygen form gases called nitrogen oxides. The nitrogen oxides dissolve in raindrops that fall to the ground. In the soil, they are chemically changed into nitrates, substances that serve as fertilizer.
        There are many different types of chemistry, but it is commonly grouped into five different categories .The five categories are: Organic, Analytical, Inorganic, Physical, and Biochemistry. 
Organic chemistry is a sub-field of chemistry that involves studying the molecules of  life. Analytical chemistry is the science of identification and quantification of materials in a mixture. Inorganic 
chemistry is commonly thought of as those areas within chemistry that do not deal with carbon. Physical chemistry is the study of the fundamental physical principles that govern the way that atoms, molecules, and how chemical systems behave. Biochemistry is the study of the chemical principles underlying basic biological systems. There are also different fields of study such as food chemistry, environmental chemistry, agricultural chemistry, chemical engineering, geochemistry, and forensic chemistry.
            Rocket fuel is a type of explosive as it consists of fuel and an oxidizer. Rocket fuel may also be in solid, liquid, or gas form. High explosives explode in reactions called detonations. In detonation, the chemical reaction takes place at an extremely high rate. The detonation in the rocket fuel would be lighting it up with fire testing the burn rate, or how fast it takes for the amount of rocket fuel to light up and burn off.  Burn rates can be affected by the oxidizer used or the ratios in the fuel that a person may have or is making.
Chemical fuels, which are produced in solid and liquid form, create great amounts of heat and power. They are used chiefly in rocket engines. Chemical rocket propellants consist of both a fuel and an oxidizer. A common rocket fuel is a chemical compound called hydrazine. The oxidizer is a substance, such as nitrogen tetroxide, that contains oxygen. When the propellant is ignited, the oxidizer provides the oxygen the fuel needs to burn. Chemical fuels are also used in some race cars.
          Solid propellant rockets are mono propellant, meaning it has a single substance or a mixture of fuel and oxidizer. This fuel is in its solid state and has a molded shape. Fuel is a material that provides useful energy. Fuels are used to heat and cool buildings, cook food, power 
engines, and produce electric power. Some fuels occur naturally and others are artificially created. Such natural fuels as coal, petroleum, and natural gas are obtained from underground deposits that were formed millions of years ago from the remains of plants and animals. These fuels, called fossil fuels, account for about 90 percent of the energy people use today. Even though solid propellant rockets are in an advanced state, it is widely used today.   
            Most fuels release energy by burning with oxygen in the air. But some—especially chemical fuels used in rockets—need special oxidizers to burn. Oxidizers are compounds that contain oxygen. Nuclear fuels do not burn but release energy through the fission (splitting) or fusion (joining together) of atoms.
              An oxidizer is a type of chemical which a fuel requires to burn. Most types of burning on Earth use oxygen, which is prevalent in the atmosphere. The most common used oxidizer in rocket fuel is called perchlorate. Oxidizers are very flammable, but some household items are oxidizers. A few household items that are oxidizers are hydrogen peroxide, swimming pool chemicals-such as chlorine, nitric acid, and nitrates.
                Perchlorate is a chemical ion used to make rocket fuel and other products that is also widely known as a controversial pollutant. An ion is an atom or group of atoms with an electric charge. The perchlorate ion has a negative charge. Its chemical formula is ClO–. Perchlorate dissolves easily in water and is a strong oxidizer—that is, it reacts chemically by removing electrons from other atoms. Perchlorate occurs naturally in some dry environments. It can also be artificially produced.
