Reasoning for Carden’s Claim.

After decades and centuries Carden feels as if the war on drugs is going nowhere and never will. The author goes on to tell us that drugs that are considered illicit will have both negative and unintended consequences. He strongly feels that all this puts the nations, particularly people around cartel areas life’s in jeopardy. By keeping a drug illegal there will always be an illegal market for it, and that the cartels can rise the prices and people will still buy from them.

The Evidence that Carden Provides.

Most of Carden’s evidence comes from information found in the text by Cowan and Tabarrock called, Modern Principles of Economics, and an Economics textbook by N. Gregory Mankiw. When raising the efforts against drugs the drug cartel will charge higher than usual prices thus making them more money. If your getting paid more for a job more people will probably want to work for the cartel. Carden’s explains that with a war on drugs everyone is in danger, especially those around and in the drug areas.

My Opinion on Legalization of Drugs.

I feel like we should legalize marijuana. People know that they should not go to work or school intoxicated with alcohol  because if they do they can be fired and academically disciplined respectively. The same principle can be used here in this situation. Just like with alcohol you should be enjoying it at home, not behind the wheel of a car or in a public place such as a hospital or school. I have never been one to enjoy marijuana but I still respect the people and their choice to use it. We all know someone that uses it recreationally and the use has been around for thousands of years, so it’s safe to say there will be no hinderance in the use of marijuana anytime soon. I believe the substance is a better substitute than alcohol. News reports are always talking about drunk drivers causing wrecks but never wrecks caused by marijuana use. That’s my thought process on marijuana use.
