In today’s world, majority of people
travel by vehicles, and generally people are facing problems on parking
vehicles in parking slots in a city. So most of the time people spending their
precious time in searching for parking lots.Using automated smart parking
system we can reduce the time, fuel consumption and also human efforts. Our system is based on
Internet of things (IOT). IOT is a concept used to connect all our surrounding things
to a network and communicating with each other. It is broadly classified into
three categories sensing, processing and connectivity. Our system is cloud
based system which contains Optical sensor to detect empty parking slots and
send this data to server, this data can be accessed by the users.

The project aims in designing an
advanced smart parking system using IOT technology. The devices can be switched
using a mobile through server (Wi-Fi). These had greater importance than any
other technologies due to its user-friendly nature. Consider the advantages of
Wi-Fi an advanced automatic system was developed to monitor the status of
parking slots. Wi-Fi
( Wireless Fidelity) is a wireless technology
that uses radio frequency to transmit data through the air. Wi-Fi transmits
data in the frequency band of 2.4 GHz reach up to 150 feet (46 m) indoors and 300 feet (92 m) outdoors. It implements the concept of frequency division
multiplexing technology. The controlling device for the monitoring in the
project is a Microcontroller. This display of information is done by
implementing the concept of Internet of Things. IoT is a concept used to
connect all our surrounding things to a network and communicating with each
other. Microcontroller reads the data and sends the data over Wi-Fi to the IOT
web page. The Microcontroller is programmed used embedded C language.
To design and implement the system
that will aid the driver to have immediate knowledge of the vacant parking
spots in his vicinity, by displaying the information over the web.
II LITERATURE SURVEY
“Smart Parking System using Internet
of Things (IOT)”to overcome troubles of finding vacant parking spot in nearby
parking. While developing this they’ve used Raspberry Pi as a hardware platform
and they maintained their, database on a central server. They constantly
captured snaps of parking area to determine which slots are empty and which one

Transport System (ITS) and Electronic toll collection (ETC) using optical
character recognition (OCR) creates a record for all entering vehicle. This
creates tag less entry for all vehicles in the parking lot, but it does not
assign a slot to the user. A universal OCR algorithm is not available, making
it difficult to create said records.
III PROJECT OVERVIEW
An embedded system is a combination
of software and hardware to perform a dedicated task. Some of the main devices
used in embedded products are Microprocessors and Microcontrollers.
Microprocessors are commonly
referred to as general purpose processors as they simply accept the inputs,
process it and give the output.
In contrast, a microcontroller not only
accepts the data as inputs but also manipulates it, interfaces the data with
various devices, controls the data and thus finally gives the result.
The project “Automatic Parking
system using Internet of things” was designed such that the status of parking
slots can be known from anywhere in the users webpage.

In this project “Automatic parking system using Internet of Things” is
mainly intended to monitor the status of the devices through server (Wi-Fi).The
controlling device of the whole system is a Microcontroller. Wi-Fi module, IR
sensors are interfaced to the Microcontroller. IRsensors are fed as input to
the Microcontroller. The Microcontroller processes this data and transmits over
Wi-Fi, which will be received from MOBILE. In achieving the task the controller
is loaded with a program written using Embedded C language. The user who wants
to park the vehicle is connected to the Wi-Fi network of that particular
parking lot through the password. The IR sensors send the status to the
microcontroller where the data processing is done. The microcontroller sends
information to the web page about the status of the slot to the user using IOT.
This way the user can easily find a parking
slot without any congestion and in less time.

The objectives of this project have
been achieved. The hassle in searching for available parking lots has been
completely eliminated by reserving the lots via IOT system. It is well managed
to access and map the status of parking slots from any remote location through
web browser. Thus it reduces the risk of finding the parking slots in any parking
area and also it eliminates unnecessary travelling of vehicles across the
filled parking slots in a city. The designed system could be applied everywhere
due to its ease of usage and effectiveness.
